Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity, Picture it!

WWSF participated at the Beijing UN World Conference in 1991. A great Promise was made and we have come a long way. 20 years later - let's review together the progress made for the women of the world and the obstacles remaining for full implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the 12 critical areas of concern.

"Picture a world where all girls and boys go to school
A world without gender stereotypes
A world where there is equal pay for equal work
A world without child marriages and the end of violence against women and girls
This is not a woman's issue, it is an issue for humanity"

Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Nguka

UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women

Prevention is Key!

Prevention is Key!  It is the most effective way to protect children from abuse.  It contributes to creating a culture of non-violence.  It is about setting up guidelines and learned behavior, which create obstacles to perpetrators. Prevention should be implemented through social and general policies involving the families, schools and professionals.  Join the campaign http://19days.woman.ch

“We must act now to end children’s skepticism about adult promises. Children are tired of being told they are the future. They want to see us fulfill our promises in the present, and enjoy their right to be protected from violence today”.

- Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, Independent expert
for the United Nations Secretary-General’s study on violence against children (2006)
